The Department of Administrative Services manages the city’s utility billing/collections, other finances of the city, personnel and purchasing. The City of Commerce provides the following utility services: Water and sewer and garbage collection through a contract with City Sanitation. The department is located at City Hall, 1119 Alamo, on the square in downtown Commerce. Application for service, termination of service, payment of bills, and the answering of questions related to utility billing can be taken care of at the Utility payment window Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. There is also a drop box for payments directly across the street from City Hall. All payments from the box are picked up at 8:00 a.m. and at 4:00 p.m. each work day. Payments deposited after 4:00 p.m. will be posted to the utility account on the next working day. Billing and payment questions can be answered by calling (903) 886-1134. An application for service can be completed by fax and the deposit paid by credit card.

City of Commerce residents receive garbage collection twice a week. Collection days are Monday & Thursday or Tuesday & Friday, depending on the area of town in which you live. Garbage must be at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. and cannot be set out prior to the day of pick up. For route schedules call (903) 886-1134 or (903) 886-1133.

Payment for utility service is due upon receipt and past due 20 days from the billing date. A 10% late penalty is charged for payments received after 4:45 p.m. on the 20^th day.

The City accepts Visa/MasterCard for utility payments. There is a 3% processing fee, based on the amount of the transaction, for making credit card payments.

Temporary water service is available for a one week period for the purpose of cleaning or showing a vacant residence. The cost for this service is $30.00. If 1,000 gallons or more of water is used, the service will be turned on and utilities will be charged to the owner.

Meter Re-Reads

At the customer’s request, meters will be re-read. A customer will be allowed one free re-read annually. All additional re-reads will be charged at $30.00 each unless the meter has been read incorrectly.

On failure to pay a utility account within thirty (30) days of the billing date a $30.00 processing fee will be applied to the account and service will be discontinued until the processing fee, penalties, and delinquent amounts are paid. An additional service charge of $30.00 will be made for any reconnection made during any hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Monday through Friday, anytime on Saturday or Sunday or during any holiday observed by the personnel at City Hall.
