FIRE PREVENTION

The Commerce Fire Department currently utilizes a fire clown program, known as the Smokebusters, for delivery of fire prevention to the youth of the community. The smokebusters visit all off the elementary schools during Fire Prevention Week each year and also assist with programs in Greenville, Cumby, Sulphur Springs and Sulphur Bluff. Since the inception of this program approximately 5 years ago, the juvenile fire setting problem seen in most areas is virtually absent. The Smokebusters perform during city-wide functions (such as the Bois d'Arc Bash, Annual Christmas parade, National Night Out, and Think Child Safety Fair. and also at county events during EMS week) when requested to do so. All of the performing "clowns" are members of our fire department.
